In the past week 20 Europe- and Israel-based companies managed to raise a total of €171.8 million in funding. This is the largest investment recorded by Tornado Insider in a single week in the last 3.5 years by far beating the previous record of €132.6 million set by 14 companies in the second week of November 2005.

The largest amount of funding (€42 million) went to the Austrian specialist antibiotic research and development startup, Nabriva Therapeutics Forschung. Apertio, a UK-based provider of subscriber-centric networks, followed next with a €25 million Series B round. In third place comes a €22.5 million investment in Erenis, a French optical fiber operator for the residential market. In addition, two other big investments, €18 million and €14 million respectively, took place in companies in the Communications category.

Early-stage funding claims a big proportion of the total invested. 7 companies raised either seed or first-round funding totaling €69.5 million – or an astonishing 40% of this week’s total.
